Dumpster Rental Utica KY

Roll-off dumpsters for Utica on US 431: old outbuilding teardowns, farm cleanups, farmhouse remodels and estate cleanouts.

Utica is a quiet rural community in south-central Daviess County, just north of the McLean County line. US 431 runs through it, 12 miles north to Owensboro and about 24 miles south to Central City, and Kentucky Route 140 also reaches the community. The town is thought to date to the early 1800s and takes its name from Utica, New York. Its ZIP code is 42376. Because the community is small, most dumpsters we place here serve a single property or a handful of neighbors working at the same time.

Below you will find the history that explains many of our Utica jobs, the roads we use, a worked example and the sizes that fit.

Utica at a glance

  • County: Daviess County, in the south-central part, just north of McLean County.
  • ZIP code: 42376.
  • Main roads: US 431 (12 miles to Owensboro, 24 miles to Central City) and KY 140.
  • Town features: a post office, fire station, Masonic Lodge, two churches, a cemetery, Mill Street and the old rail station site.
  • Named for: Utica, New York.
  • Typical jobs: outbuilding teardowns, farmhouse remodels and estate cleanouts, usually in a 15-yard or 20-yard.

The mill, the rails and the main street

Mill Street is named after a flour mill that once stood behind what is now JR’s Market. On the same street, a passenger station served trains to Owensboro in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Today the town has a post office, a fire station, a Masonic Lodge, two churches, a cemetery still in use and a few stores and a gas station. Most burials in the cemetery date from the 1930s onward, though a few go back to the early 1900s. The old train station and a former school building are no longer used and are showing their age.

That last point is the key to Utica work. Old buildings, whether a derelict outbuilding, a former store or a family farmhouse, are always the source of the heavier cleanups, and the people who own them often want to clear the site rather than restore it.

Getting to Utica

US 431 is a busy state route, so the container should not sit on the roadway. We deliver to the driveway or lane off the highway, and then back into position on a firm surface. KY 140 gives another access point to properties on the side roads. Utica is about 12 miles from Owensboro, which makes it a straightforward run; the longer part of the trip is often a gravel lane. Livermore lies roughly eight miles farther south on US 431, and the McLean County line is close, so some of our Utica deliveries start from Owensboro and some from the south side depending on routing that day.

Projects we see in Utica

  • Old shed and outbuilding removal. Rotten lumber, rusted metal and decades of stored items fill a 20-yard quickly.
  • Farm and acreage cleanup. Brush piles, fence lines, old feeders, tires of unknown age (which we cannot take; see below) and equipment parts.
  • Farmhouse remodels. Kitchens, floors, siding and windows in houses that have stood for generations.
  • Reroofing. Rural roofs are often large, and weight is the main issue. See roofing dumpsters.
  • Store and shop clear-outs. Small business owners along US 431 clearing shelving, fixtures and inventory.
  • Estate cleanouts. A small town where families stay has many estates. A 15-yard or 20-yard handles most houses.

A sample Utica job

Imagine a landowner taking down an old tin-roofed shed and clearing the lot behind it: warped boards, rusted sheet metal, a broken lawn mower and a pile of fence posts. They book a 20-yard, which at $400 to $550 is a good fit for a shed of that size. The driver needs a firm spot at the end of the gravel lane, with room to back in without crossing a ditch. The job takes a long weekend, and the landowner calls for pickup on Monday. Had the pile included concrete footings, we would have recommended splitting it into a separate heavy-debris container so the weight did not drive up the cost.

What you cannot throw in

Tires are the item rural cleanups most often try to dispose of. Tires, paint, solvents, batteries, propane tanks and other hazardous materials are not allowed. If you find them while clearing an old building, set them aside and ask a local recycler or the county about proper disposal. The accepted items list spells out what is allowed.

Three jobs, three sizes

A clear-out of a lifetime’s shed. An old tool shed with rusted hand tools, shelves of paint cans (which stay out), coils of wire and a workbench. Start with the paint, set aside any hazardous items, and put the rest in a 15-yard at $300 to $450.

A farmhouse kitchen and floor. Old cabinets, linoleum, plank flooring and wall boards. A 20-yard fits a whole first floor, at $400 to $550, with a few weeks of rental time.

A big lot with a fallen barn. Timber, tin and old hay. Because hay and wood are light but bulky, a 30-yard at $500 to $650 gives you room to stack. If the barn had a concrete floor that is coming up too, the concrete should go in its own container.

A note on rural lanes

The length and surface of a farm lane decide where the container goes. Soft ground can rut under a loaded roll-off truck, and gates sometimes need to be opened wider than people expect. If you can, drive the lane in a pickup after rain to check it. We will also ask about overhead lines, because the dump bed rises when the container is unloaded. A spot near the barn but clear of wires is usually best.

Costs and sizes

Shed and outbuilding cleanups usually take a 15-yard ($300 to $450) or a 20-yard ($400 to $550). Farmhouse remodels commonly need a 20-yard. A smaller garage or storage cleanout fits a 10-yard ($250 to $350). Anything heavy, such as a slab, brick wall or bags of old concrete, should go in a container sized by weight; the weight limits page explains how.

Questions from Utica customers

Is Utica a long drive from your base?

It is about 12 miles on US 431, so the trip itself is routine. We schedule it the same way as any other delivery.

What if my lane is too narrow for the truck?

Call and describe it. We can often set the container at the road end of the lane or in a wider spot on your property rather than at the house.

Can I keep the dumpster longer than usual?

Yes, if your project needs more time. A standard rental runs 7–10 days, and a longer rental costs more, so call for the extra-day rate before the term ends. The long-term rental page explains extended terms for projects around Utica.

Do you accept old farm equipment?

Metal pieces are fine within the weight allowance, as long as they are free of fluids. Drain oil and fuel first.

Making the most of one rental

Because Utica is rural, many customers fit several jobs into one rental: knock down the shed on Saturday, clear the garage on Sunday and haul fence posts on Monday. If you plan that way, sort the pile by material before the truck arrives. Metal and lumber can share a container. Concrete and dirt should be separate. Anything hazardous stays out. Phone hours are Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and a quick call about what you plan to throw away is the cheapest insurance against a surprise weight charge.

Can you deliver to a property with no street number?

Yes. Give us the road name, the nearest crossroads and a landmark such as the church or fire station, and we will find it. A pin from your phone’s map app sent by text also works.

Is there a cheaper way to clear a big lot?

If the lot has a lot of brush and no building material, a yard waste container is the right fit and avoids paying for more space than you need.
