Dumpster Rental Southtown Owensboro KY
Roll-off dumpsters for Southtown Owensboro: estate cleanouts, ranch-home remodels, retail turnovers and college move-outs near Frederica Street.
Southtown is the busy south side of Owensboro, centered on Southtown Boulevard and South Frederica Street, which is US 431 south. It is part shopping district and part neighborhood: stores, offices and restaurants sit near streets of established homes, and Kentucky Wesleyan College is a short drive away. The mix of commercial and residential jobs makes it one of our more varied areas.
Southtown at a glance
- Main roads: Southtown Boulevard, Frederica Street (US 431) and Carter Road (KY 2698), which meet the Wendell H. Ford Expressway at Exits 14 and 12.
- Retail: Wildcat Plaza at 410 Southtown Boulevard, other commercial properties along the same road and Towne Square Mall at 5000 Frederica Street, which opened in 1978 with 437,752 square feet on one floor.
- College: Kentucky Wesleyan College, a 55-acre private campus that moved to Owensboro in 1951 and competes in NCAA Division II, fielding 13 varsity sports.
- Nearby neighborhoods: Wesleyan-Shawnee, known for ranch homes from the 1960s and 70s, Southern Park’s ball fields and a YMCA, and Dogwood Azalea, with Moreland Park’s ice rink, Wesleyan Park Plaza and the annual PorchFest.
- Typical jobs: estate cleanouts, ranch-home remodels, retail turnovers and college move-outs.
A south side that is changing
Towne Square Mall opened in March 1978. Its three anchors, Macy’s, Sears and JCPenney, which had moved there from downtown, have all since closed, and the surrounding area has been re-planned several times. One nearby example is the former Texas Gas property on Tamarack Road, where the owner was cited in June 2026 for incomplete construction and overgrowth on a proposed 139,650-square-foot project. That story is a reminder that a lot of the south side is in transition, with older retail buildings being torn down or re-fitted. Demolition and tenant fit-out are a growing share of our Southtown work.
The houses nearby are in a different cycle. Ranch homes from the 1960s and 1970s are now ready for their second round of updates. Original kitchens, carpet, windows and roofs are being replaced, and long-time owners are downsizing, which creates estate cleanouts. In May, college move-out adds a short rush of furniture and boxes.
Projects we see in Southtown
- Estate and downsizing cleanouts. Full ranch homes with garages and attics. A 15-yard or 20-yard is typical.
- Kitchen, bath and flooring updates. Replacing original finishes in mid-century homes.
- Roof and window replacement. Shingles are heavy, so we size by weight. See roofing dumpsters.
- Retail and office tenant turnover. Stripping a unit for the next occupant. See commercial dumpsters.
- Student and rental move-out. Furniture, mattresses and bags at semester end. The rent versus donate guide helps sort what can be donated.
- Demolition of small buildings. Outbuildings, garages and dated commercial sheds. See demolition dumpsters.
Placement in Southtown
Residential streets here usually have standard driveways that suit most of our containers. For commercial jobs, the question is whether the container can sit in a parking lot without blocking customers or fire lanes. Get the property owner’s approval, and tell us where the truck can turn and when the lot is least busy. Strip centers often have rules in their leases about dumpsters and enclosures, so ask the property manager before ordering. Check the permit page if the street is the only option.
A sample Southtown job
A retailer is vacating a 3,000-square-foot unit and the landlord wants it back to the studs before the next tenant arrives. The job produces ceiling grid, carpet, shelving, drywall partitions and fixtures. A 20-yard at $400 to $550 fits the first week, with a second container if the landlord also strips the storefront. The tenant notifies the property manager, gets approval for the parking-lot spot and schedules delivery for early morning before the lot opens.
Sizes and costs
A kitchen or bath update fits a 10-yard ($250 to $350). A whole-house cleanout usually needs a 15-yard ($300 to $450) or 20-yard ($400 to $550). Larger commercial fit-outs can use a 30-yard ($500 to $650). The pricing guide shows what drives the final price.
Questions from Southtown customers
Do you serve the stores along Southtown Boulevard?
Yes, with the property owner’s permission. Tell us the unit, the parking layout and when the lot is least busy.
Can I get a dumpster for end-of-semester move-out?
Yes. Book early in May, since many Southtown students and landlords want a container at the same time near the end of the semester. A 10-yard ($250β$350) or 15-yard ($300β$450) fits most apartment move-outs. Call with the address and the date.
Should I recycle or donate first?
If the items are in good condition, donating is a good idea. See our rent versus donate guide.
Is a roof tear-off a good fit for a Southtown home?
Yes. Single-story ranch roofs in Southtown are straightforward, and a 20-yard ($400β$550) fits most. Shingles are heavy, so ask for the weight limit before delivery. The roof tear-off guide gives sizes by roof area.

Need a Dumpster in Southtown Today?
A lease ending, a landlord with a deadline or a semester that wrapped up early does not leave much planning time. We can sometimes deliver the same day, depending on the routes and containers free that day, though we do not guarantee it and set no fixed cutoff. Call early, tell us the address and whether it is a house or a retail unit, and we will say what is open. For a strip-center unit, have the property manager’s approval ready so the delivery is not held up at the lot. In May, move-out demand is high, so book ahead. See same-day delivery for what affects it.

Permits and Placement in Southtown
A container on your own driveway or private lot normally needs no permit. On the south side, the more common question is the parking lot: get the property owner’s approval, keep fire lanes and customer spaces clear, and check any lease rules about dumpsters and enclosures before ordering. If the container must sit on a public street, a right-of-way permit from the City of Owensboro Department of Public Works is usually required, and a container cannot block a sidewalk. Apply a few business days ahead. The permit requirements page has the full process.
Estate and Downsizing Cleanouts
Many Southtown homes are mid-century ranches whose first owners are now downsizing, which is why estate work is common here. If you are clearing a house for a family member, sort first into keep, donate and discard, and plan for the attic and garage, which hold more than people expect. Our estate cleanout guide covers timing, sizing and what to do with paperwork and valuables.
