Dumpster Rental Knottsville KY

Roll-off dumpsters for Knottsville and the KY 144 corridor: old farmhouse renovations, barn teardowns, estate cleanouts and parish events.

Knottsville is one of the oldest communities in Daviess County, in the eastern part of the county on Kentucky Route 144. It is small now, a census-designated place with 183 residents in 0.70 square miles at the 2020 census, but its history is long and well documented, and the church that anchors it has shaped the county. We deliver dumpsters to Knottsville on a scheduled basis.

This page covers the town’s history, the roads we use and the jobs that come up here, and then the sizes and prices that fit.

A town that built itself in the 1800s

Leonard Knott built the first house here in the fall of 1827, and the town took his name. He first lived in a small cabin on the Whitesville Road. James Millay opened the first store and post office, and in 1836 Millay and William R. Griffith laid out the town. Griffith, then a state legislator, secured the official name of Knottsville. By the late 1800s the town supported two general stores, a drug store, a shoe shop, a blacksmith and wagon shop, two undertakers, a flour mill, a saw and grist mill, and three tobacco factories. That is a lot of commerce for a place with fewer than 200 residents today, and the old buildings that remain are a reminder of it.

St. William Catholic Church was founded on May 2, 1887, when St. Lawrence parish was divided because of overcrowding. Bishop McCloskey laid the cornerstone on May 27, 1888, and Bishop George Montgomery consecrated the church on May 30, 1898. The parish had the first public circulating library in Daviess County. The school history is just as full: a log schoolhouse in 1854 replaced by a frame building in 1857, St. William’s Elementary in 1912 staffed by Ursuline Sisters, a fire in April 1926 that destroyed the school and library, a new brick school in 1927 and St. William High in 1937. In fall 1967 St. William High merged with St. Mary of the Woods High School to form Trinity High School, and Mary Carrico Memorial School, dedicated in 1963, still serves the St. William and St. Lawrence parishes. A brick convent built in 1958 was razed in 2004 to meet new fire code requirements.

What this means for dumpster work

A community with this much history has older buildings, and older buildings mean demolition, repair and cleanout. In Knottsville the work falls into a few patterns.

  • Old farmhouse renovations. Plaster, lath, flooring and windows. Plaster is heavy, so check the weight limits page.
  • Barn and outbuilding teardowns. Lumber, tin and rubble. See demolition dumpsters.
  • Reroofing. Large rural roofs with heavy shingle loads. The tear-off guide explains sizing.
  • Estate cleanouts. Clearing homes that have been in one family for generations.
  • Parish and school events. Picnics, festivals and fundraisers on church grounds. See event dumpsters.

Roads and delivery

KY 144 is a state highway that connects Knottsville to the east end of Owensboro, where it meets the Wendell H. Ford Expressway at Exit 21. Because the highway is busy, we deliver to driveways and lanes set back from the road. Rural drives can be long, gravel or soft, so tell us the length and surface, and whether a truck can turn around. Hard ground is best; we can use boards on soft ground. Most Knottsville properties have private space, so a permit is rarely needed. When a property is near the church or school, ask the parish office where the container may go so it does not block event parking.

A sample Knottsville job

A family inherits a farmhouse built in the early 1900s with a barn behind it. Inside, there are layers of wallpaper over plaster, a kitchen from the 1950s and an upstairs full of storage. Outside, the barn roof has partly collapsed. The family splits the work into two phases: the interior cleanout in a 20-yard first, then the barn in a 30-yard a few weeks later. The two containers total $900 to $1,200 at current ranges, and each is delivered when its phase starts, which keeps costs lower than renting both at once. If the barn floor is concrete, the family would be wise to handle that separately.

Sizes and costs

Barn and outbuilding teardowns often need a 20-yard ($400 to $550) or 30-yard ($500 to $650). House cleanouts fit a 15-yard ($300 to $450). Smaller projects such as a bathroom remodel fit a 10-yard ($250 to $350). The pricing guide explains what affects the price.
