Dumpster Rental Philpot KY

Roll-off dumpsters delivered to Philpot along KY 54 for family-home cleanouts, barns and sheds, reroofing and parish events.

Philpot is an unincorporated community on the east side of Owensboro, reached by driving out Kentucky Route 54, the same road that carries traffic on to Whitesville. The 2020 census counted 991 residents on a little over three square miles, which works out to roughly 300 people per square mile. That is thin enough that nearly every property has room for a roll-off container, and thick enough that you will often find a neighbor with a project of their own. A post office has used the Philpot name since the 1870s, after an early settler named Augustus J. Philpot.

We deliver dumpsters to Philpot from our Owensboro base. The sections below describe the roads our drivers use, the kinds of jobs that come up here, what a real project costs, and the questions people ask before they book.

Getting to Philpot: KY 54, KY 142 and the Dermont crossroads

KY 54 begins its eastern run on East Parrish Avenue at the junction with Frederica Street. From there it passes J.R. Miller Boulevard and the Triplett and Breckenridge Street intersection, then runs through the busy retail strip around the Wendell H. Ford Expressway interchange with US 60 and US 231. A little farther out it meets Fairview Drive and then the Thruston Dermont Road at Dermont. Near Philpot itself, KY 54 shares a short stretch with KY 142 before continuing southeast toward Whitesville. About 18 of KY 54’s 54 miles lie inside Daviess County, and Philpot sits along that stretch.

This matters for scheduling. The expressway interchange area is the slowest part of the trip at midday, so ask for a morning or late-afternoon delivery window. If you have a choice of delivery windows, ask for early morning.

What Philpot is like on the ground

Philpot’s own elementary school closed in 2005, and children now attend Country Heights Elementary on KY 54, at the edge of Owensboro. That detail tells you something about the community: it grew up around a crossroads and a school, not around a downtown. Homes are spread along KY 54 and the lanes that run off it, and many sit on large lots with sheds, garages and yard space.

Church life is central. St. Lawrence Parish, one of the oldest in the county with a history that goes back to 1822, keeps a picnic ground here. The diocese’s 2019 picnic schedule listed the St. Lawrence picnic in mid-September, held for the Mary Carrico Memorial School, which serves both the St. Lawrence and St. William parishes. Large church picnics produce plates, cups, tents and cardboard in volume, and a single container near the pavilion keeps the clean-up to one pickup.

Projects we see in Philpot

  • Cleaning out a long-held family house. In a community where families stay for generations, a house sale or an estate often means emptying fifty years of belongings from a garage, attic and spare rooms. A 15-yard or 20-yard is the usual choice.
  • Clearing a barn, shed or outbuilding. Old lumber, tin roofing, rusted equipment and feed sacks fill a container quickly. If the pile includes concrete, brick or dirt, read our page on weight limits first, because heavy material changes which size is safe.
  • Reroofing a ranch house. Philpot has many single-story homes with long rooflines. A shingle tear-off weighs more than people expect, so we size by weight. The roof tear-off guide gives examples.
  • Storm and fence-line cleanup. After wind events, limbs and fence panels pile up along property lines. A 10-yard holds a surprising amount of brush if it is stacked tightly.
  • Parish and school events. Picnics and fundraisers around the St. Lawrence grounds make a good case for an event dumpster.
  • Kitchen and bath remodels. Cabinets, counters, flooring and drywall from interior updates fit a 10-yard in most cases.

A typical Philpot job, start to finish

Picture a family clearing a single-story house of about 1,900 square feet after a sale. The garage holds decades of tools and shelving, two bedrooms are full of furniture nobody wants, and a shed behind the house is half rotten. They call on Monday, we confirm a Wednesday morning delivery of a 20-yard, and the truck sets it on the gravel at the side of the drive. They fill it over the next four days, and on Saturday they call for pickup. The total sits in the $400 to $550 range for that size, with delivery and pickup included. If the shed turns out to hold more than expected, they can call before the truck leaves and we will talk about swapping or adding a second container rather than leaving them with a pile.

Through the seasons

Spring is the busiest stretch: yard cleanup, shed clear-outs and the first remodeling projects once the ground dries. Summer brings parish picnics and roofing work. Fall is when many families clear a house before winter, and storms can strike at any time of year, so brush and limb cleanups are common after a high-wind day. Winter is quieter, which makes it the easiest time to book a specific delivery date.

Know your materials before you load

Philpot’s housing stock is a mix of mid-century ranches, newer brick homes on big lots and older farmhouses, and each brings its own debris. Plaster-and-lath walls in an older farmhouse are heavy and dusty, so wet the work area and keep the load to a size that stays under the weight allowance. Asphalt shingles from a ranch roof are the other heavy item people underestimate. Yard debris such as limbs and brush is light but bulky, so cut it down and stack it tight. Treated lumber from decks and fences is allowed, though it should not be burned or mixed into material headed for compost. If you are unsure about any item, the accepted items list and the weight limits page are the two pages to read before you start.

Placement, ground conditions and access

Most Philpot lots are big enough to keep the container entirely on private property, so a street permit is rarely needed. The more useful question is what the container will sit on. A loaded roll-off is heavy, and lawn that looks firm in August can soften quickly after a few days of rain. We prefer a gravel pad, concrete or asphalt, and we can lay boards underneath to spread the load. If your driveway is long, narrow, gated or lined with low branches, tell us when you call so the driver can plan how to back in. The permit page explains the rare case where a container has to go on a public road.

Because Philpot properties often sit well back from KY 54, our drivers need a spot where a long truck can turn or reverse safely. If the only space is beside the highway, we will talk through other options with you before delivery.

Before delivery day

  • Walk the path from the road to the spot and note any wires, limbs, gates or soft ground.
  • Move vehicles, trailers and equipment out of the way.
  • Sort anything hazardous, such as paint, solvents, batteries and tires, so it does not end up in the pile.
  • Decide whether anything is worth donating first. The rent versus donate guide helps with that.

Sizes that fit Philpot jobs

A barn or outbuilding clear-out is often a 20-yard job at $400 to $550, or a 15-yard at $300 to $450 for a smaller shed. A garage or storage-room cleanout usually fits a 10-yard at $250 to $350. A very large farm cleanup or a demolition may call for a 30-yard at $500 to $650. The size guide compares all six containers with examples, and the pricing guide explains what affects the final number.

Questions Philpot customers ask

Is Philpot inside your regular delivery area?

Yes. Philpot sits on the Daviess County side of our service area, and we schedule it like any other delivery. Call with the address and we will confirm the price and a window.

Can the dumpster go on grass at my Philpot property?

It can, but pavement or gravel is better. If the lawn is the only option, we can lay boards underneath, and we will ask how soft the ground is after rain.

Can I get a dumpster the same day?

Sometimes. It depends on whether a truck is free that day. Call early and we will tell you plainly. The same-day delivery page explains how it works.

What is not allowed in the dumpster?

Paint, solvents, batteries, tires and other hazardous materials are excluded. The accepted items list has the full details.

How do I know how full is too full?

Keep the load level with the top edge of the container and do not stack debris above it. If you have a few items left over, call us before pickup and we will advise.
